AitriumOS is the desktop application that clinical staff at your site use to prepare and submit patient data to clinical trials. Validation, standardization, and de-identification run on the workstation; the prepared dataset is then sent directly to the trial’s destination. This page is the starting point for the IT team that installs and supports AitriumOS. Work through the steps below for each workstation, then confirm the result from inside the application.
1

Install AitriumOS

AitriumOS runs on Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS. On Windows, choose between the MSI installer (per-machine, for IT-deployed fleets) and the Standard installer (per-user, no administrator rights). Install only one type per workstation.
2

Allow outbound HTTPS to Aitrium

Permit outbound HTTPS (TCP 443) to the destinations in the firewall allowlist. The most important is api.aitriumos.com: without it, users can sign in but no trials load and no data can be submitted.
3

Configure your corporate proxy, if you use one

AitriumOS reaches its HTTPS services through a corporate HTTP proxy, including proxies that use Windows Integrated Authentication or Basic authentication. See Corporate HTTP proxy.
4

Allow the direct SFTP upload

For trials that transfer data over SFTP, the upload goes directly from the workstation to the trial’s server and cannot go through a web proxy. Allow the program NewLeaf.exe, not just the port, and send your site’s public egress IP address to the trial organization if its server restricts addresses. See For site IT: allowing the connection.
5

Check endpoint protection

AitriumOS is code-signed and runs in the user’s context. If your EDR or antivirus needs an exception, allow it by publisher, install path, or executable. See Build integrity & validation.
6

Validate from inside AitriumOS

Browser and command-line tests do not prove the application can connect. On the workstation, open Settings → Network: it lists each Aitrium service with its status, and Upload destinations → Check now tests each trial’s SFTP server without signing in or sending data. For what each message means, see Upload connection troubleshooting.
